When I first learned about Abby Williams Hill, I was surprised to learn how many places I had painted where she also had painted a century ago, including the Canadian Rockies. This piece was painted at Moraine Lake, in Banff National Park in Canada. It was a beautiful afternoon...lots of people around, and I'm sure much busier than when Abby painted in this area. I was standing near the dock where folks were renting canoes. Despite all the people, it was a very serene scene. The color of the lake was incredible...warm ochres near the shore leading into the beautiful emerald color from the area glaciers. Incredible mountains all around...the Canadian Rockies are so majestic.
